Dogs like to smell, and some dogs are bred to have a particularly sensitive sense of smell. Olfactory hounds are breeds used to hunt, and they can track the scent of another animal in fields, bushes, or running water. These dog breeds are bred for hunting, with extraordinary tenacity and perseverance in chasing prey. When the scent hounds smell the scent of chase, they don't stop until they find the source of the scent.
#1.Bassett Hound
This breed was originally bred in France for hunting hares, and literally the bas (low) and suffix et (quite low) in their names can be seen. They act quickly, have an incredible sense of smell, are born with super hunting instincts, and are hunters' favorites.
#2. German short-haired indicator dog
In the 17th century, in order to hunt, the Germans cultivated this breed with strong sense of smell and energetic dogs. They have excellent scent tracking ability on land and water, and are known as hunters' universal companion.
#3. Dachshund
Dachshund is difficult to deal with in hunting. From the name, it should be translated as "badger dog", which comes from the German Dachs and Hund (hound), which is the only breed that can be hunted on the ground and underground. It has a keen sense of smell and can track injured animals for miles.
#4.Springer Spaniel
This energetic little guy is a good companion for British hunters, who can catch the smell of animals in both humid and dry environments. This famous gun hunting dog can smell prey in a jagged way in the wind.
#5. Beagle
This little guy is known for his love of hunting rabbits. They have the best nose in the dog world, small size, fast speed and agile movements, which makes Beagle a powerful tracker.
#6. The dark brown coon hunting dog
From the appearance, it can be seen that this breed has the shadow of the American Blood Hunter. This breed is believed to be able to track everything from bears to cougars, but by name they are mainly used to track raccoons. The big steps, the sharp nose and the loud voice make them the favorites of hunters.
#7. Bloodhound
This sad face is the originator of all tracking dogs and can be traced to Belgium in 1000 AD, where Bloodhounds were used to hunt deer and wild boars. They have a strong tracking instinct and it is almost impossible to control themselves once they smell it.
#8. Brooke Coon Hunter
This uniquely-faced hunting dog lives in the south, where it is used to track raccoons and squirrels, who will trap their prey in trees and bark to remind the hunter. This breed is tough and able to track extremely faint odors, which makes them a good partner for hunters. Their name comes from its unique fur with blue spots.
#9. Harrier
Briders of British descent have huge noses, open nostrils and loose lips that can quickly smell the scent of tracking animals. Since they are bred with short-legged dog breeds, this allows hunters to keep up with their footsteps by horse or on foot. This breed is known for hunting rabbits and small prey.
#10. Mini Begi Griffin Vandin
This small breed of dog originated from France and Belgium in the 7th century. Due to its short and thick fur, they are ideal for traversing dense bushes to track rabbits and small prey. Although they are short, they have the ability to smell the scent in the harshest environments and are a great companion for hunters.
