Chlamydia is a relatively unstable bacterial body, which is associated with respiratory and eye infections in cats (especially conjunctivitis). Limited studies have shown that approximately 5% of cats in the United States are caused by Chlamydia. An estimated 30% of cat respiratory diseases in the UK are associated with Chlamydia parrot.
is mainly manifested as conjunctivitis. At the beginning of the disease, blepharospasm, congestion, conjunctiva edema, and tear, followed by mucopurulent secretions, forming follicular conjunctivitis. Ophthalmitis may occur in newborn cats, causing closed eyelid protrusion and purulent necrotic conjunctivitis. Unilateral mucopurulent conjunctivitis can usually occur in natural cases, with an incubation period of 3-10 days, and about 5-7 days to develop bilateral conjunctivitis and congestion in the contralateral eye. The symptoms are particularly obvious 9-13 days after onset and generally subside in 2-3 weeks. Some cats may have secondary bacterial infections, mycoplasma infections, keratitis, corneal cataracts and corneal ulcers. The sick cat has a loss of appetite and is unwilling to move. Cats with rhinitis have paroxysmal sneezing and runny nose fluid, severe secondary bronchitis and pneumonia, and symptoms such as dyspnea, cough, fever, purulent nasal fluid, listlessness, and fatigue. They even have ulcer lesions in the nasal and oral mucosa. Even if some cats are treated, their clinical symptoms will last for several weeks, and a very small number of cats will experience recurrence.
【Pathological Changes】
The response to conjunctival inflammation is prominent, and infiltrates neutrophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages in the early stages of the disease. These cells and conjunctival epithelial cells contain chlamydia.
【Diagnosis】
Conjunctiva scrapers or secretions, smear staining, inclusion bodies will be found in conjunctiva epithelial cells.
【Treatment Principles】
Symptomatic treatment and supportive therapy, oral tetracycline 2-3 times a day, for two to three weeks, 15-22 mg per kilogram of body weight. Oral doxycycline or azithromycin twice a day for two weeks, 5 to 10 mg per kilogram of body weight. Apply erythromycin eye ointment to the eyelids.
【Prevention】
Injection of five and one vaccines.
