BBC: Forest is considering inviting Silva to coach, but the latter’s liquidated damages are high and the replacement may be Cooper

In the 8th round of the Premier League, Nottingham Forest lost to Chelsea at home. After the game, Nottingham Forest officially announced that coach Postkoglu, who had just been in office for 39 days, was dismissed. The BBC wrote an article about the Forest team's coaching candidates.

Postkoglu was appointed on September 9, but in all 8 games he coached in all competitions, the team failed to win any victory, with a record of 2 draws and 6 losses. At the league level, he only scored 1 point for the team in 5 Premier League games, resulting in the team currently ranking 17th in the standings, only 1 point above the relegation zone. The club said in a statement that the dismissal was taken "following a series of disappointing results and performances" and was effective immediately.

With the departure of Postkoglu, Forest are reportedly already looking for their third head coach this season, having previously fired Nuno after just three games into the season.

Regarding the successor, sources revealed that Fulham coach Marco Silva is the first choice of many people within the Forest team. Silva, who worked with Forest boss Marinakis at Olympiacos and whose style of football has helped lead Fulham to a foothold in the Premier League, is considered ideal to help stabilize Forest after a poor start.

However, the BBC has learned that the 48-year-old Portuguese coach's contract with Fulham contains a "huge" release clause. Considering that the club has just paid the release clauses of Nuno and Postkoglu, they are obviously unwilling to pay another huge sum of money to hire Silva, especially when Silva's contract will expire at the end of this season and he can be obtained for free at that time.

In view of the difficulties in introducing Silva, it is understood that the Forest team has studied other alternatives. Sources said the possibility of re-appointing Steve Cooper, who led Forest back to the top flight in 2022 but was replaced by Nuno in December 2023, had been considered.

But Cooper has recently been appointed as the head coach of Danish club Brondby. Another option being explored, as reported last week, is the appointment of Sean Dyche. The appeal of the former Burnley and Everton manager is that he has extensive experience of avoiding relegation in the Premier League, his tactical style is in line with Forest's goals, and he is currently a free agent without having to pay a release clause.
