Yesterday, we received an emergency call from Cici (pseudonym), the poop shoveler. The call mentioned that our cat sister committed suicide by jumping from the 28th floor. Considering the urgency of the cat’s condition, our hospital immediately dispatched an ambulance to the scene.

During the inspection process, the poop removal officer said: My cat is fed delicious food and drinks every day, just like a little ancestor. The cat was so happy that he jumped off the building to commit suicide.
Actually, a cat does not commit suicide by jumping off a building.
Why do cats jump off buildings?
1. Curiosity
It is true that "curiosity kills the cat". Once a cat encounters crawling insects or flying moths, its hunting instinct will immediately become uncontrollable.
They will move quickly out of curiosity. You must know that the speed of cats can reach 40km/h, and then they accidentally get lost while moving quickly...
2. Like heights
Cats are animals with a strong sense of territory. Cats can better monitor their territory and observe their surroundings at heights. At the same time, cats will also go to high places to be quiet and avoid being disturbed by other people or other animals.
Out of the window and on the balcony, you can overlook the movement downstairs, which just satisfies the cat's love for heights. But no matter how nimble and light a cat is, there is still a chance of slipping.
3. Unneutered
Unneutered cats have elevated hormones during estrus and are extremely susceptible to the influence of the colorful world outside. Windows and other things cannot stop the cat at all. At this time, "cats that fall behind" appear.
Prevent the "misstep cat" from going astray?
1. Close the windows
Never be sure that you will close the windows or doors. What if one day you accidentally forget to do so? Don't take chances. Prevention is better than remedy. The most important thing for high-rise residents raising cats is to seal the windows.
Please be kind to it. If you raise it, you must be responsible for its safety. Don’t wait until you lose it before you regret it.
2. Neutering
After sterilization, the cat no longer has an estrus period, its temperament gradually becomes stable, and it no longer clamors to go out to find a partner, which naturally reduces the risk of falling from the building.
Neutered female cats can avoid endometritis, pyometra, ovarian cysts, ovarian tumors, uterine fibroids and other related diseases;
Castrated male cats can avoid testicular tumors, prostate hypertrophy, indiscriminate urination and other problems caused by estrus. In addition, male cats who frequently go into heat are prone to urinary system problems, such as frequent urination and anuria. Castration surgery can help male cats significantly reduce the probability of the above-mentioned related diseases.
So, what should a cat remover do after the cat falls?
1. Observe whether there is bleeding, and apply pressure to the bleeding area to stop bleeding. Focus on observing the nasal cavity.
If the nose bleeds and foamy blood flows out, it indicates that the lungs are damaged. At this time, avoid hugging directly. If blood from the cat's mouth keeps flowing out, you need to open the cat's mouth and clean out the blood while sending it to the doctor to prevent the blood from blocking the trachea and causing suffocation.
2. Observe the gait. Inability to walk, abnormal walking posture, etc. often indicate fractures in the limbs. If the limbs fall to the ground when falling, the hind limbs will bear the greatest force and are most likely to fracture.
3. Observe the breathing speed. Normal cats breathe about 30 to 40 times per minute. It is normal for cats to breathe slightly faster outdoors after jumping off a building, but if it exceeds 50 times per minute, special attention should be paid. In addition, you need to pay attention to the sound of breathing. If the breathing sound becomes heavier or there are bubbles, it often indicates a ruptured lung.
4. Move carefully, put it into a cardboard box as much as possible, and move it after fixing it to avoid secondary damage.
5. Send to the nearest hospital immediately. Even if there is no abnormality from the usual observation, it is best to take the patient to the hospital for examination. There are many cases of pancreatitis in cats after jumping from buildings, and the impact of stress is very large. In addition, some soft tissue contusions that are not easily visible to parents also need to go to the hospital for examination and treatment.
